Women Autumn Jackets 2025

With the wind and rain in full force I’ve picked my favourite styles of autumn jackets. I wear them depending on my mood and they have become classic pieces in my wardrobe. They suit all ages, shapes and sizes so I hope they will become your favourites too!

☂️ For contemporary – Barn

The country style oversized jacket with patch pockets and a contrasting cord collar has been given a reboot for 2025. I’ve been seeing a pink version with burgundy collar in various high street stores – at Next for £72, Monsoon for £99 and Other Stories for £119 . A fun weekend, casual option that’s not too try hard.

☂️ For attitude – Biker

The zips and studs hardware have been loved by rebels and motorcyclists for decades! Two tiny side pockets, the cross body zip and wide lapels are a must on whatever colour or material you choose. A real leather jacket will be an investment piece, so if you’re not sure try the high street for faux leather and always go vintage for worn in.

☂️ For elegance – Blazer

Look to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (face of M&S lingerie and Mrs Jason Statham) for a masterclass in wearing a tailored jacket, either on its own or as part of a trouser suit. Stick to single breasted and fabric that falls from your shoulders to your hips to elongate your top half. Try on different brands to get the right sleeve length which should be at wrist level when down. Layer a fine knot underneath and even add a belt to vamp it up.

☂️ For sporty – Bomber

Bomber jackets are collarless, have zipper fronts, short waist lengths. Additionally, they have ribbed waistbands and cuffs and usually two side pockets. Great if you are straight and need some curves, they look cool with skirts and knitted dresses as a contrast. I include varsity / baseball jackets too as they are the same shape. The college baseball jacket with coloured sleeves and either a number or slogan epitomises the American preppy  – but please don’t pair with side stripe trousers it is too much!

☂️ For practicality – Safari

A longer length (at least to your hip and often beyond) belted with numerous pockets, these a great option for a casual day time jacket with jeans and trousers. Mums and dogwalkers these were made for you.

It is worth investing in these pieces, good quality fabric rather than a brand name, so that you dig them out of your wardrobe year after year. Mix it up with a scarf or gloves or hat and a good jacket will be a timeless addition to your wardrobe.

I’ll be writing about coats to suit your body shape soon!
