To edit or not to edit

Undecided about whether you need a wardrobe edit? Here’s my guide to taking your wardrobe from overwhelming to organised.

First and most important if the thought of someone coming to your home and look inside your wardrobe fills you with dread, please don’t worry. I’m not here to judge. I’m here to explain why things do (or don’t) work.

With your wardrobe edit I’d like to help you:

  • rediscover the joy of wearing clothes that flatter your body shape and lifestyle
  • learn how to create new outfits from your existing wardrobe and
  • develop a personal style that is unique to you.

Before the edit – prepare some space to lay out your clothes (a bed and floor is fine). Have storage solutions ready e.g. an empty drawer, storage bags for under the bed, boxes, baskets, over the door hooks whatever you need.

On the day  – we will decide which areas you want to edit and take everything out of your wardrobe.

  • We will evaluate the items so we can sort them into Keep, Sell, Donate and Fix piles.
  • We will photograph and list as many items as possible.
  • We will talk through why we are putting items into the different piles.
  • Then we put the items that you love, wear regularly and want to keep back into your wardrobe.

A wardrobe edit is not about throwing everything out and starting again. You’ll be surprised that even minor tweaks will give you the wardrobe you need.

24 hour cooling off period – there is no need to rush to sell and donate items, you’ve made an emotional decision to put the items in these piles so we will put them to one side or in storage.

After the edit – you’ve done the hard work by having the edit so I will prepare a style file for you to continue your refining:

  • Body analysis page of tips for dressing for your body shape.
  • Wardrobe analysis of your Regulars, Key and Statement pieces.
  • Your current wardrobe v actual lifestyle to see where the gaps are.
  • Styling tips personalised for you.
  • A personal outfit formula which will focus on new combinations of existing clothes.

 Next steps

I hope that this gives you a clear idea on what we can do together and I’m looking forward to getting an appointment booked in! Email me on hello@traceysaunders.co.uk.
