As the weather hots up it is time to get your tootsies out, so here is my tongue in cheek guide to this summer’s sandals from fishermans to sliders to step out in.
Birkenstock – A moulded cork sole and two buckles across the front of the foot are the trademark features of this sandal from the spenny to cheap as chips copies.
✪
Clogs – The 70s are alive in the wooden soles and riveted studs that will outlive cockroaches. Each year brings a different variation – mules, ankle strap etc etc.
✪
Dad’s sandals – Ugly in an ironic way the flat multi strap (often Velcro) shoes favoured by walkers. The bright colours don’t detract that this is a sandal with one purpose and one purpose only to clothe your feet while you walk.
✪
Fisherman – Essentially closed toe-flats with lattice work or chucky straps across the feet, tied with a buckle at the ankle and open heel. Have the marmite effect of love or loathe (I’m in the latter camp).
✪
Flip flops with heels – As if the toe thong isn’t enough torture there are now flip flops with heels. They look pretty from the side and as long as you don’t plan to walk anywhere you are fine.
✪
Gladiators – Difficult to take seriously after the Kardashians wore them in 2015 the flat sandals with thin ties that you wrap criss cross up your shins until you cut your circulation off.
✪
Sliders – Thin, dry feet are essential to be able to wear these slivers of footwear, also make an annoying noise as the sole slaps against your foot. Just saying.
And me? I’m a trainers, ballet flats, espadrilles and peep toe wedge kind of girl!
