Busby & Fox is an independent womenswear brand, whose aim is to create a beautiful own-label of pieces that go with everything else in the collection.
I haven’t heard of them before, so on Friday 14 August I popped over to Leamington Spa for their latest store opening.
Formerly home to the Danish Wardrobe Company the double-fronted store on Regent Street has been made lighter and brighter with a lick of stone coloured paint, fewer clothes rails and by switching the position of the till.
There are some vintage looking pieces of furniture to display jewellery and accessories which I liked too.
Guests were greeted with a glass of fizz and brownies as they browsed the new collection. the first rail I stopped at was the ‘Leamington Collection’ of five pieces.

The jewellery range of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches is mainly coloured beads and sparkling crystal. I wasn’t expecting to see shoes, but their small selection of suede clogs Mona Suede Clog – Taupe | Shoes – Busby & Fox and Birkenstock-inspired sandals will look great with their cropped wide trousers and you get the idea that the items are deliberately chosen to go with everything else in the shop.
Emma’s Story
For the store’s founder, Emma Vowles, it has been the old problem of opening your wardrobe doors, staring at what’s hanging inside before declaring that you have absolutely nothing to wear that she wants to solve.
Emma’s love of clothes began early, a magpie for vintage stalls and flea markets, building her own sense of style along the way. She began her career working in fashion in London, listening to what women were searching for, and hearing the same frustrations repeated over and over again.
After moving back to Devon to raise her three daughters, Emma dipped out of the fashion world, starting a floristry business from home, before opening a flower and homewares shop. Over the years, that shop grew to introduce some of the European clothing brands she loved.
In 2014, the special place Emma had curated was renamed Busby & Fox. She wants the brand to be “a love letter to all the women she has met and styled over the years. It’s about sharing all that she’s learnt and ensuring no woman ever has to open their wardrobe doors and feel anything but joy.”
I like their muted colours and simple silhouettes – reminds me a little of The White Company. Prices are comparable to Mint Velvet and they share the same ethos of quality materials and well cut clothes that will last season after season.
With Applause, Domino, Elise and all the other womenswear shops in town now, Leamington really is a centre for individual independent boutiques where you can easily pick up stylish additions to your wardrobe.
