What to wear to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

If your idea of a perfect day out is browsing cutting-edge garden design and breath taking floral displays, get ready to turn heads with my guide to what to wear to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. RSVP in confidence that with my styling tips you will have an effortlessly elegant outfit.

Dresses

Flutter sleeves, A-line cuts and waterfall hems will flatter curvy figures and give light floaty movement, keeping you cool in the summer. Silk or linen will be luxurious and elegant options for fabrics, working well in simple shapes like a shirt dress. Go for a midi, maxi or knee length dress, although there isn’t a dress code a mini would not be appropriate.

The no dress option

Stand out from the crowd in a pastel linen trouser suit or short sleeved belted jacket with matching knee length shorts co-ord with statement jewellery.

Shoes

The showground is 11 acres so comfortable shoes go without saying!  Ballet flats in any colour with embellishment and loafers will look great with trousers. If you are going to wear white trainers, make sure that they are box fresh and for extra impact have some fun details such as no laces, a zip or a stripe that picks up the colour of your outfit. Flip flops and mules will not be sturdy enough to see you through the day and if you need the height opt for wedge sandals, Birkenstocks are available in every colour so are also a good option.

Bags

For all your essentials – show guide, hand held fan, sun glasses case, sun cream, make-up and tissues alongside your phone keys and purse. a tote that you can pop over your shoulder is a must. There are so many versions too, a basket weave would look great with espadrilles, and a single colour leather would look elegant with a suit or co-ord.

Jewellery and accessories

Wear short sleeves (or push them up) to reveal a stack of  bracelets on just one arm. And finally prepare for the weather – both sunshine and rain. A light waterproof is easier to manage than an umbrella if it rains (it will be too crowded to put one up) and layers are easier to peel off and carry when the sun comes out.
